Company History
The Windsmith
Originally opened in San Diego, CA in April 1999, The Windsmith served student and professional musicians throughout the San Diego area. It has been under new ownership since 2006.
The Windsmith Band Instrument Repair
Steamboat Springs, CO from 2006 to 2015
A major life change to Ski Town USA. Our repair facilities relocated to Steamboat for an amazing 9 years in beautiful CO, doing repair work for the local music store as well as private customers.
Windsmith Music
After leaving Colorado, the repair technicians moved to Philomath, OR where The Windsmith Band Instrument Repair continued to operate, now contracted with Gracewinds Music in Corvallis. Upon learning of Gracewinds' closure, the owners of The Windsmith Band Instrument Repair decided to find a retail space and move their repair facilities to a physical store location. Set up to take over where Gracewinds had left off, Windsmith Music opened in January of 2017.
In October of 2020, one owner of the business stepped away from the business to peruse other endeavors.
And here we are, serving the local Corvallis, Albany, Philomath, and surrounding areas with band and orchestra instruments, repairs, and rentals.
Mark was born. Shortly thereafter he adhered a trumpet to his face and the rest is history.
He is simply an awesome human being with an omnipresent and omnipotent sense of humor loved by all. He has a godlike brass technician talent but is also humble enough not to mention it to friends and colleagues with lesser skills.
When not at work he plays trumpet, or rather, beautiful melodic sounds pour out of the instrument with apparent ease. In his off time he relaxes by crushing other cyclists with sheer strength and talent on a bike.

Katie has lived in many places. Born in England, she has also lived in Indiana, Arkansas, San Diego, and Colorado. Junior high and High School in Rogers, Arkansas saw studies in oboe and flute performance and initiation into musical theater. After working as a dental assistant for 5 years, she attended the Red Wing Technical School of Repair 1995-96 to study band instrument repair.
After school, Katie worked as a repair tech for Nick Rail Music in Santa Barbara, CA and Thomas Music in Santa Cruz, Ca. In 1999, The Windsmith in San Diego, CA was born and became an integral part of the music scene both supporting the local musicians and forming the San Diego Wind Ensemble.
Katie was the 2nd Oboe with the La Jolla Symphony, principal oboe in the Palomar College Orchestra and Grossmont Symphony, and 2nd flute and 2nd oboe in the Steamboat Symphony. After doing repair work for Gracewinds Music for one year, she was well poised to step into the hole left by the exit of Gracewinds.
She is a current member of the Windswept Quintet in Corvallis and does musicals through the Corvallis Community Theater and the Majestic.
Trevor Wilson
Sales Manager / Customer Service
Trevor graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and during his time there, he played principle trumpet in the OSU Wind Ensemble, was section leader in marching band, and played with the pep band and trumpet choir. He has been playing trumpet since he started band back in the fifth grade, and has studied privately for just as long. He has studied with Jay Chen, Andy Plamondon, William Berry, and has had the pleasure of playing with Allen Vizzutti (even if it was only for one brief performance).
He has played in many different ensembles throughout his career, and has traveled to six different countries in Europe, performed in Japan, as well as Taiwan.
Before becoming a member of the Windsmith Team, he worked at Gracewinds Music in Corvallis as a band instrument specialist (now closed permanently). Prior to that, his music retail experience came from a part time position at a small music store in his hometown of Pendleton, OR called the Pendleton Music House (out of business now).
He is married and has two daughters, named Elizabeth and Samantha. He currently resides here in Philomath, Oregon.
Ruston Reynolds
Saxophone Specialist / Saxophone Technician
Ruston is from Springfield, Missouri. He has played piano since ‘73 and saxophone since ‘78. He started playing professionally in ‘86 where he played everything from jazz to wedding bands to army bands.
He has been the saxophone technician here at Windsmith for over a year and is a perfectionist in his trade. He doesn't release an instrument until it is the best it can be. He would “rather pick up cans then work where the standard isn’t the highest.”
He likes his swing hard and his funk deep and groovy.
Dylan Petrie
Assistant Sales Manager / Customer Service
Dylan is from Salem, Oregon. He spent his first 2 1/2 years of college at the University of Idaho before transferring to Oregon State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at OSU Dylan had the privilege of performing in Fukuoka, Japan in 2012. He also performed with the Wind Ensemble, Corvallis Symphony, and even Clarinet Mafia. Has been playing the Clarinet for 20 years and has performed in Alt City, All-State, and All-Northwest honor groups, and took 1st place at the state level Solo/Ensemble competition his senior year of high school.
After graduating he continued his life as a performer and has performed with the Majestic Theater's productions of Les Miserables, Aladdin, The Magic Flute.
Dylan has worked here at Windsmith for about half a year now. He is a pug enthusiast and is the proud pug parent of his 3 year old pug, Tallulah.
